Vmware installation and issue with modules

Dear All,

i am trying to install the VMware Workstation Pro 17 and i got some issue. I cannot overcome it…
see attached logs, possible you would understand problem / more… i am not so experienced with the OpenSuse or Linux in general…
vmware-30789.log
and application apploader log
vmware-apploader-30789.log

when i click in the start menu VMware Workstation, a window appears with comment: “Before you can run VMware, several modules must be compiled and loading into the running Kernel”

then i click install, next windows pops up, “compiling and installing following kernel modules… vmmon and vmnet” and next "unable to install all modules. See the logs for details, (exit code 1).

and thats all.
it is a fully legal software, without cracks or so.
i was going to use it to run W10 on virtual machine, mainly for Excel.

rest i can manage from Susa.
i installed boxes (lag is bad) and tried also KVM but here lag is also annoying.
i watched Chris Titus Tech and Fedora on much worse hardware he got much better performance.
i want to stay on Suse here. VMware should use 3D accelerations so should be much better (at least in theory).

many thanks in advance for helping here.
i am not able to solve the problem.

At least one module fails to compile for kernel 6.5. Ask VMware if there is update or patch or some other fix.

I’ve found mkubecek’s vmware-host-modules repo on github to be useful, but that version also does not build. I’ve logged an issue at Fails to build on Kernel 6.5 · Issue #215 · mkubecek/vmware-host-modules · GitHub about this.

Maybe:

Not sure that this applies to this particular issue, but I got a response on the issue I reported in the github repo I pointed at.

The tmp/workstation-17.0.2-k6.5 branch seems to work here.

VMWare and latest kernels often don’t mix, so on a rolling release this is hardly surprising.

You would get faster assistance posting on VMWares Community Support forums though as this is a VMWare issue and not an opensuse or Linux issue to solve.

Except, of course, for the solution earlier in the thread.

Dear All,

thanks for the answers.
i followed the thread - Cannot compile vmnet kernel …
after some commands, VMware shows that it needs to install some modules and it shows only vmmon.
vmnet was intalled. i will ask for support overthere.

Dear All,

just for your info. Version 17.5 installs w/o any issue.
actual kernel 6.6.2.1
