VMWare and Virtualbox installation fails: YaST2: Uable to create repository

Host Platform: Windows 7 64-bit

When trying to install OpenSUSE 64-bit using the DVD ISO I get the following error. I have tried both an ISO file and a DVD with the ISO burned to it. This error shows up when installing to either Oracle Virtualbox or VMWare Player.

YaST2
Unable to create repository
from URL ‘cd:/?devices=/dev/sr1’.

See screenshot for full message.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Hi,

I got this error once, but I continued the installation anyway. After the isntallation completed, I set up myself the repos and everything went fine after.

What do I put for Repository Name when the installer asks for it?

Its been a while, but if I recall, I answered no and provided none. The installation continued anyway.

it is certainly not the right way to do it though. But at the time, it works for me.

In vmware I copy the image iso file somewhere that vmware can see it (a
data source), and then in the VM, before booting it, tell it the DVD drive
is that iso image file. Then I boot from that iso, by adjusting the virtual
bios to boot from the “dvd”.

But my host system is linux, not windows like yours.

I tried that, and it ends up failing, being unable to boot.

Hopefully no one will laugh too hard: a simple MD5 check revealed my initial download was bad. After looking into it a bit more, I downloaded via BitTorrent this time rather than a direct link. MD5 checked out this time, and OpenSUSE 11.3 is now happily at home inside of VMWare Player 3.1.2.

Ok,

I’ll laugh in silence… :stuck_out_tongue:

lol - now I just need to learn how to administer Apache HTTP server, and then setup Foswiki…

Next time, use a metalink downloader: it not only verifies, but also
correct errors without downloading it in full. And maximizes the bandwidth.

I suggest you start a new thread if you need help with the http server. It is fairly easy to isntall and setup, check documentation.
