VMware 6.5 Unable To Load Modules

Yet another problem I have. Suse is taking a while to learn but I swear I’m getting there. Can pritty much do everything by CLI now.

Anyway…

I’m trying to run VMware Workstation 6.5 on OpenSuse 11.2, Gnome. I had it running fine but then needed to do a system re-install and upon installation this time I get a error saying it’s is Unable To Build Kernel Module and reffers me to a error log. The error log says:

Mar 14 22:07:51.420: app| Log for VMware Workstation pid=6136 version=6.5.0 build=build-118166 option=Release
Mar 14 22:07:51.420: app| Host codepage=UTF-8 encoding=UTF-8
Mar 14 22:07:51.420: app| Logging to /tmp/vmware-root/setup-6136.log
Mar 14 22:07:53.140: app| Extracting the sources of the vmmon module.
Mar 14 22:07:53.159: app| Building module with command: /usr/bin/make -C /tmp/vmware-root/modules/vmmon-only auto-build SUPPORT_SMP=1 HEADER_DIR=/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.1-default/build/include CC=/usr/bin/gcc GREP=/usr/bin/make IS_GCC_3=no VMCCVER=4.4

I’ve tried installing GCC_3 but that didn’t work and I’ve also tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I always get the same error. I tried using the any-any-patch but that never seemed to do anything.

Found the solution. I had a trial copy of VMware Workstation 7 that I had removed to install full copy of 6.5. Some of the files hadn’t been removed and were causing conflicts. Went around the system and removed all files related to vmware manually and everything is working.
