Vm installation issue

I’m trying to install opensuse tumbleweed in a virtual machine using kvm. everything “works” fine however every time I get to actually installing it I get a minor error saying both user and root passwords could be set. since i have no access to the vm i can’t check any logs or do anything.
If i skip user creation it still says root password could not be set.
I’ve tried to reinstall the iso image
I’ve tried it on a fresh install of kvm
I can’t find anything like this online anywhere

Please help

Your question is very confusing:

  • First you state that you could set user/root passwords, then you say that you can’t set root password - which is it?
  • Next you say that you’re trying to install TW in a VM, but then you say you don’t have access to it - which is it?
    • Forgot to add ‘not’ to the first post - sorry for the confusion *During the initial install, when prompted for user creation I can input the user and root password no problem. Then when its installing(last part of the installation) and it gets to 90% done I get a pop up error stating there was an error and the system couldn’t set both the user and root passwords. if I skip creating a user it still wont set the root password.
  1. Once the vm is created(I only get a minor error from the system not being able to set the passwords so the install doesn’t stop), I cant log in to anything after(normal tty or rescue), so I have no access to any logs or anything. All I can do is sit on the login or grub page.

Not being able to set a password on user creation is hardly a minor error; very odd that the installation would continue. Are you getting any other error messages? Personally, I’ve never seen this on any system I’ve installed going back 30 years.

Can you post the results of sudo virsh dumpxml your_vm_name?
