I have tried to install the full VLC player for 12.2 but get the following error:
nothing provides libcdio.so.12(64 bit)
Has anyone managed to get the full VLC installation working? Any version I’ve installed only plays ogg and wav files and not the restricted codecs (although I had installed them form the opensuse help pages).
Any information on how you tried to install VLC would be helpful, especially which repositories you used.
The packman repository includes libcdio.so.13 in the libcdio13 package, and VLC was smooth for me following http://forums.opensuse.org/content/127-multimedia-restricted-formats-installation-guide-12-2.html on a clean install of 12.2 with KDE 4.8.4
Unfortunately, I had a number of goes with different repos etc. Therein lies my problem…you’d think I’d have learned by now…
Anyway, am trying the link you suggested - I had done this before I reinstalled but I may have had too many attempts with other repos for it to work correctly.

…and now it works. I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes…
An important part that I missed when I did it for the first time was not to Switch System Packages. Make sure you do that, then all updates, then see if there is still a problem with VLC
I did all of that originally, but I think that I’d Googled so much “advice” that, by the time I got round to the instructions, the system had had too many changes for the whole thing to work.
Anyway, it’s all rather splendid now. Thanks for the advice and help.

in translate its something like : VLC do not support audio or video format “mpgx” There is no way to repair it.
Someone had also this problem ? pls help
