some days back i have installed VLC player. It is working fine when logged in as any other user than root user but not when logged in as root user.
Was that not deliberate by design ?

good! that is you should not log into KDE, Gnome, XFCE, etc etc as the
root user…because it can and will subtly mess up your permissions
so that eventually you will trash your system, and wonder why; plus it
opens your machine up to malware and trojans…still not as easily
done as with the system from Redmond, but VERY unsafe nonetheless…
