can i install vlc player by using this link VideoLAN - VLC media player for openSUSE
is this safe? I’m using opensuse 11.3 and this seems to be the easiest way for me but you have to accept the key and answer any dialog
is this ok/safe ?
best regards alexander
The real question is why would you want to when you can get it all from Packman? Here are the vlc files I keep installed and from where:
vlc-mozillaplugin-1.1.5-1.pm.3.24-x86_64 -> PackMan :: Startseite
libvlc5-1.1.5-1.pm.3.24-x86_64 -> PackMan :: Startseite
libvlccore4-1.1.5-1.pm.3.24-x86_64 -> PackMan :: Startseite
vlc-1.1.5-1.pm.3.24-x86_64 -> PackMan :: Startseite
For openSUSE 11.3, add the following repository in YaST / Software Repositories:
http://packman.jacobs-university.de/suse/11.3/
Then open YaST / Software Management, search on vlc and install the same files I show above. To confirm your installation, run this terminal command:
rpm --query --all --queryformat '%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}-%{ARCH} -> %{VENDOR}
' vlc vlc-mozillaplugin libvlc5 libvlccore4
Thank You,
Don’t use VideoLan repo to avoid conflicts between codecs. Install vlc from packman.
