Hello, just as the title says: VLC does not start when trying to open a media.
I have opensuse 13.1 version.
I’ve installed the VLC version from here:http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-suse.html for opensuse 13.1.

You think that “trying to open a media” is done by others al lof the time and in the same way you are used in doing this, but a more detailed explantion may be required. It could even be that you use a GUI/Desktop Environment, but you do not mention this, let alone which one.
Also a question, why do you prefer VLC from videolan over the Packman one? And I hope you do not have the Videolan and Packman repos both active.
i’ll try Packman. if it works i dont care about VLC.
zypper in packman
?
No, packman is a repo, no package.
Remove the VLC repo in YaST->Software Repositories, then add the Packman repo (if it isn’t there already) by clicking on “Add” and choosing “Community Repositories”.
Afterwards switch all system packages to the Packman versions in YaST->Software Management, see here:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Vendor_change_update#Full_repository_Vendor_change
And install “vlc-codecs” if it is not installed.
Packman is not a product/package. Packman is a repository.
You posted ths in the Multiedia form. Did you read the sticky threads at the the op of this forum? E.g. https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/452884-Multimedia-in-One-Click
You better first remove that VLC from your system and then do it the openSUSE way of installing all you may need for mult-media.
i opppened software managment, but cannot such an option
and yes packman seems to bes installed: as packman-essentials ?
Click on “View” and choose “Repositories”.
Then select the Packman repository in the left list and click on “Switch system packages…” on top of the right list. (as seen in the picture)

packman-essentials is only part of Packman.
It would be enough for VLC, but if you want to, remove it and add the full Packman repo instead. (you don’t need packman-essentials when you add the full Packman, as the latter one includes everything that the former one has)
oh yeah, nice it works, thx gettin reputationf rom me
