After last Tumbleweed update, VLC cannot open directories by mean “Media > Open directory…”. I can navegate to any directory, but I cannot select it.
(Anyway, I can drag and drop any directory to the Playlist.)
Do you have any idea?

Just a quick check shows no problem in tumbleweed here with vlc version 3.0.23 in selecting and opening, and playing files using media ----> directory.
Doesn’t solve your probem but suggests looking at your system for a solution.

I have the same version of VLC installed, but I don’t know where to find any settings that might be related to my problem.
Just to avoid misunderstandings, “Open File” works while “Open Directory” stalls idle with the selected directory highligted but nothing happens.
I am just a casual VLC user, but I think that up to the last update VLC enqued and started to play all video files in the chosen directory?
Yes, media -----> open directory does stall. Click on file suggested by “Look in:” gives directory choices.
Selecting one of those moves to playable files for me.
But you said you could move to a directory but it would not allow selection.

Hi @aecordoba1 … just to be sure we all understand - and I have included a screenshot of the “Media → Open Directory” selection dialog box.
Are you using Plasma / KDE ??
So, I assume you DO see the directory selection dialog box (as shown), and you can select a directory … but:
My vlc media -----.> open directory on mate desktop looks nothing like that of @myswtest.
I don’t know how to post a screen caoture. That’s a different subject.

Interesting … based on that screenshot, that is an “Open File” dialog box, NOT an “Open Directory” dialog box.
Why? Because you have a file (mp4) selected … a person cannot select a file using an “Open Directory” dialog box.
I will admit that I am using the Flatpak version of VLC. Why? Because the Flatpak version is much more reliable about its abilities. That’s because all required underlying software components are packaged in it.
For numerous “i’m having xxx, or yyy, or zzz problems with VLC” posts out here, I have suggested, “try the Flatpak version” … and when the user does try it, the problem(s) go away. 
Simply drag your image from e.g. a Dolphin window into your post edit panel.
I’m using KDE Plasma 6.7.0 on openSuse Tumbleweed 20260622.
I marked up your screenshot (see at bottom).
It’s my experience (and you can see my screenshot for evidence, in my Reply) that when you click on a sub-directory (in the upper list) using the “Open Directory” dialog box, the name should show up in the lower “Name:” box (it’s not there for you).
Question, see my other arrow (right side) pointing to the down-arrow for “Name:” box … if you click down-arrow, does the selected sub-directory name show up?
( sidenote: I have a suspicion that your recent TW update introduced some sort of issue in the “file selection” dialog box (in KDE), which VLC calls and depends on).
It might be interesting to launch VLC from the command line (konsole) , then select Open Directory, and see if any errors show up.
The down arrow doesn’t show anything.

Does it work wirh another KDE Theme in systemsettings?
The files (Video or Audio) are not in a sub-directory??
With another KDE Theme is the same thing.
In the directory I want to open, there are several audio files.
@aecordaba1, At the point where you are, based upon the image, if I click on the directory that you have highlighted, a list of tracks on the disc opens and clicking on one starts the play. The issue looks to be that yours doesn’t do that.
Verify that the highlighted directory is what you think
Perhaps there is a vlc path configuration issue. I don’t know where these are configured but I’ll look.
Maybe try a re-install of vlc and dependencies.

When I click in the highlighted directory, the directory opens but no file is listed. (If I open the same directory with Dolphin, I can see the MP3 files .)
