`Hi, has anyone figured out how to get VLC working in 11.4? This is M5, BTW. Need repos if possible.
Have you tried the 11.3 Packman repo
Many have been as vlc is not in Factory packman
Yes, I did but I get dependency errors with VLC. Also tried the Packman factory repo and the Videolan factory repo but the VLC from videolan just locks up. The one from Packman works great on my 11.3 install. I can use kaffeine but it’s nothing special. Thanks for the reply.
Trying the Packman packged 11.3 version probably does not hurt to try as a temporary measure. It can be removed if it does not work.
I took a look to see what would be required to rebuild vlc on my 11.4 M5 KDE4 PC and I obtained this:

Hmmm … thats a lot of “devel” bloat just to rebuild vlc on a sandbox PC.
I decided it was not worth my while to rebuild for my own testing on 11.4 M5. Besides, I need to run to work in 15 minutes and not enough time.
But one ‘could’ try to install all those devel packages and then try to rebuild it. One can get the src rpm of vlc packaged by packman from: PackMan :: Package details for vlc
Thanks for taking the time with it. I agree, it’s not worth fooling with.
Anyone try the 11.3 VLC repo, just to really mess things up :-))
I had it working in M5 and now in build 687 by using:
VLC repo:
download.videolan.org
/pub/vlc/SuSE/Factory/
Packman repo:
packman.jacobs-university.de
/suse/factory/
Try it if you dare… I dont give any backup
VLC using the packman repo for 11.3 works fine but you have to downgrade DirectFB to an earlier version. This causes problems with the packman factory version of MPlayer (which uses the latest version of DirectFB). But if you use both VLC and MPlayer from packman 11.3 repo (with the downgraded DirectFB) everything works fine.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I managed to get Kaffeine to work, so I decided not to fudge around with VLC until the repos get sorted out.
