VLC and Software Manager

Does anyone else get this when they start up the Software Manager?

VLC works fine but I would like to resolve this issue. I haven’t wanted to fix it until last night when I started to install kdenlive.

Looking forward to your responses. Merry Christmas!

I am thinking that I would just delete the repository call VLC and reenter it again and see if the problem goes away. That is YaST / Software Repositories and remove the one that has the problem. It costs nothing to do this for any repository that might go astray on you. I might also ask you open up a terminal session and run this command:

zypper repos

And post the output that you get. Here is an example of my listing:

Thank You,

…and as you can see, jdmcdaniel3 has disabled the VLC / Videolan-repo, which is highly recommended since it is frequently causing troubles with packages from the Packman-repo.

OK thanks. After I do

zypper repo

my output looks just like yours jdmcdaniel3. Thanks for getting back to me.

I am a newb but I am really starting to enjoy Linux!

We actually want to see your repo list. Please post the result of

zypper lr -d
zypper lr -d

Here you go. What does this tell you folks?

You have the same repository (Almost) twice. No need for this and you were getting an error on the vlc repository. I would remove #1 and start over.

1 | 11.3 - VideoLan | 11.3 - VideoLan | No | No | 99 | rpm-md | http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/11.3/ |
2 | VLC | VLC | No | No | 99 | NONE | http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSe/11.3 |

The correct one to use is #2 AND the only file you would even use from there is libdvdcss. If you have it already, git rid of ALL vlc entries and never put them back in.

Thank You,

Sounds great. Isn’t it good enough to have them set to ‘No’? Thanks for the help, too. I should start looking for a way to start giving back to the forum here. I think if I go through and start trying to answer other peoples questions then that would be a great way to learn…

Normally setting a repository to not enabled and not refreshed is good enough, but if I had any sort of error with them, I would just delete it. When using the VLC reposirtory, you can get into a lot of trouble with multimedia wanting to work if you mix files from VLC with Packman. At minimum, it is best to use all repository files from Packman when it comes to playing Restricted Format files such as MP3 file. The only exception is to obtain the libdvdcss file from VLC for playing DVD’s and that is all.

I highly recommend that you indeed go through the many forum messages and if you think you can provide help to that user, please do so. Not only will you be helping someone else, you will find you will learn more yourself. Don’t be bashful, dive in and start helping right away.

Thank You,
