Ran into something weird. I was trying to watch a .mkv file in 720p format last night in VLC. Now, for about 10 minutes everything is fine and then the sound just stops. Video play is fine, but audio just cuts out. These hasn’t happened with anything else other than this .mkv file. Would the fact I’m running gnome 3 using the open source drivers on my ati 5850 have anything to do with this? Or maybe something else? Anyone run into an issue like this?
I’ve had a similar issue with VLC. The sound after 25-40 minutes would start to get choppy. The solution I did is probably not what you are looking for, but I switched to Smplayer. No problems since.
Just to make sure your multimedia is in order, have you done this
MMCHECK - Check Your Multimedia in 10 Steps - Script File, as proposed by RedDwarf
You could try setting the audio output in the prefs to Unix OSS
But I use Smplayer too
I have the same problem. Using VLC from Packman, KDE4.6 and 64bit distribution. The sound was good at 11.3, but after reinstalling for 11.4 sounds stops randomly.
I’ve been using vlc a lot more than normal (on my 64-bit openSUSE-11.3 pc) the last few days to see if I could reproduce this. Thus far I can not and as of yet I have not experienced this. I have vlc’s output audio module set to ‘default’.
~> rpm -qa ‘vlc’
libvlc5-1.1.9-1.pm.2.3.x86_64
vlc-noX-1.1.9-1.pm.2.3.x86_64
vlc-1.1.9-1.pm.2.3.x86_64
phonon-backend-vlc-0.3.1-1.pm.2.1.x86_64
libvlccore4-1.1.9-1.pm.2.3.x86_64
vlc-qt-1.1.9-1.pm.2.3.x86_64
Though it’s worth mentioning VLC has been pulled from the Packman repo for 11.4, so unless you already have it installed…
Only temp arrangement mind you
