virtualnox problem

Hello,

When I start up a virtual machine in Virtualbox on Suse 13.1 I see this message:

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

‘/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup’

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.

Roelof

Wow, SUSE 13.1? You’re way ahead of the rest of us! Have you executed the command that was suggested?

yep,

I get this message :

Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules, NOT. It has been packaged. done

and after that the same error message.

And 13.1 was a stupid typo. I mean 11.3

Roelof

Which VirtualBox are you using, the OSE version or the one from the VirtualBox website?

And 13.1 was a stupid typo. I mean 11.3

I suspected that.

Hello,

The OSE version installed by Yast.

Roelof

I assume VB was working before, and you are in the vboxusers group? Did this start after a kernel update? It’s possible that this broke vb. There’s an updated package in the virtualization repository.

Otherwise, you can go with the Sun/Oracle version and follow Carl’s instructions for installing VB:

Virtual Box (Sun Version) Install HowTo

Hello,

It never worked before.
It’s a first install.

I will try this today after a reboot of the computer.

Thanks for the tips so far.

Roelof

Hello,

The reboot did wonders.
So this one can be closed as answered.
