VirtualBox - What's it for?

Hi all, the process of tidying up my Linux machine and I stumbled on the following message during boot:

vboxadd[896]: Starting the VirtualBox Guest Additions ..failed

Could someone please educate me on this matter?

  • pligdas,

VirtualBox is a virtualization solution similar to VMWare. The add-ons provide additional features and get loaded at boot time. They need to be configured and recompiled when the kernel changes, that’s often a reason for a load failure. If you don’t use VirtualBox, you can delete them.

In Yast - System - Runlevel editor, disable the vbox services if you don’t use Virtualbox, and the messages will disappear.

Thanks buckesfeld. I removed VirtualBox and got rid of one of the two error messages.
Then as Knurpht suggested, I disabled vbox services in Runlevel editor and I got rid of the second one.

Thank you both for the prompt replies.

BTW, I was asked to update my kernel to kernel PAE, which I did.

And remove the corresponding rpms, which I don’t know how they are called.
