Recently after a vbox upgrade and a kernel up date as well, when I click on the vbox icon it acts as if it is starting but the icon bounces up and down and after some time disappears - no virtualbox start up. I have run: /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup and it appears to function properly. I had the same problem really ages ago and don’t recall what it took to straighten it out? There is one additional thing I noticed when going thru Yast to uninstall vbox the previous addition of vbox was in the list, for what ever reason i let it pass and eliminated both of them. upon reinstall I have the same problem. please advise if you have seen or had this problem.

Start Virtualbox from a terminal:
virtualbox
Post the messages.
openSUSE version, desktop used etc. please?
And, please post output of
uname -a
rpm -qa | grep kernel-
I need to note that the present system did not initiate the problem. It started in OpenSuse 12.2 which I have since updated to 12.3. The problem existed prior to the upgrade.
As requested:

Note: In terminal mode I typed in virturalbox and it came up, however, it showed none of my machines, I went to their folder and put in one of my virtual machines and when I went to start it, it said I needed the extension pack - I tried to install the extension pack but it can’t start Virtualbox and install.
Please post:
zypper se -si virtual
Are you sure that you have upgraded to openSUSE-12.3? You should not have kernel-desktop-3.4.28.
Please give the output of:
cat /etc/SuSE-release
zypper lr -p
What did you do to upgrade? How didd you install VirtualBox?
