Virtual Machine Manager will not start

I installed openSUSE 11.0 and want to have a virtual machine for some windows applications running in the background.

One of the configuration tools is Virtual Machine Manager. If I open this tool a box is opened and closed. tail /var/log/messages shows me the following text:

I don’t really know what to look for.

Is someone able to help me out of this problem?
Regards

Hi & welcome,

There has been a bug reported for this one : https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=398932

Would be useful if you add your comments and info to it! Will speed up getting it fixed!

Thanks & Cheers,
Wj

I am just curious if I am having the same problem. I am in version 11 64 bit and when i try virt-manager from the console, as root, nothing happens. No errors. When I choose it from regular programs it acts like it is loading and then eventually goes away. Yast does nothing either.

Linux linux-ktya 2.6.25.18-0.2-xen #1 SMP 2008-10-21 16:30:26 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hi & Welcome!

It could be possible though it sounds different.

Is the Xen daemon running correctly? what does ’ xm list ’ return?

You could try enabeling a Xen repository holding newer Xen versions.
one could be : Index of /repositories/home:/wkong/openSUSE_11.0 (add it through YaST > Software Repositories)
After enabling apply all the updates for Xen and the Xen kernel.
You can find more info at http://software.opensuse.org/search , search for Xen.

If you ask me, openSUSE 11.0 has not had the most stable Xen implementation… I’ve seen many problems with Virtmanager as also specific hardware combinations causing problems.

I’ve been testing and running openSUSE 11.1 for the last month now, and Xen is doing a much better job there!

Cheers,
Wj
