videos not playing correctly in firefox

I have been having a problem for a while where videos that use flash, i.e. youtube, will not play right. They sometimes don’t come up, just show a blank part on the screen where the video should be. A lot of times they play as though they are in fast forward. Logging out and back in occasionally fixes it temporarily, as does restarting if that doesn’t work, but it happens so much that is a real pain. Any ideas?

First establish if this is happening in other browsers. Konquerer if you use kde? Or Opera.

Some _64bit users have had problems recently, but not quite as you describe.

Yes I just tried it in konqueror and it does it with it too.

Open a terminal and do:

rpm -qi flash-player

I did that and it still doesn’t work. I have also tried changing the application for flash from using shockwave flash back to flash player and visa versa to no avail. This is perhaps the weirdest glitch I have had for online videos.

I want to see the output from that command. lol.

Copy and paste it here

Oh duh… For some reason I thought that, but it looked like it updated it or something lol.

Try to remove flash player from YaST and follow this tutorial,
hope it can help.

Programming and Linux: Install flash plugin for Firefox/others in Linux

That didn’t help either. I don’t have any idea what might be causing it.

In a terminal do:

uname -a

post result

also do again:

rpm -qi flash-player

Linux cab1-4 2.6.27.23-0.1-default #1 SMP 2009-05-26 17:02:05 -0400 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

rpm -qi flash-player- says it is not installed? Weird because I installed it like in the above tutorial and got no errors… I just tried installing the rpm again and it says it is already installed.

It probably has a different name, try:

rpm --query --all '*flash*'

It’s also possible to look it up in Yast - Software Management
Just search for: flash

Ideally, I would say remove that package. You might be able to mark it for removal in Yast.

When done there let’s go back to the original and re-install it.

zypper in flash-player nspluginwrapper

try again

O.K. I did that and it still isn’t working. I had one video play O.K. so i thought it was fine but the next one and all the ones after are still doing it.

rpm -qi flash-player nspluginwrapper

Do a snapshot like this and make sure you have selected the version tab so I can see there.
Do this for flash and nspluginwrapper

I’m sorry that is so huge but for some reason it won’t link to the right pictures. I tried putting in the url but it would not show the full size image and you couldn’t read the words.

Normally the BB code will give you a thumb for the images

Open a terminal and this:

ls /usr/lib/browser-plugins

Post result

You seem to have the packages OK though.

Also open FFox and go to tools - add-ons - Plugins
see if flash is listed

libflashplayer.so nppdf.so

Shockwave flash 10.0 r22 is what is listed in the add-ons.
