Videos distorted when playing

Hello,

I have been unable to successfully play most videos on my computer running openSUSE Tumbleweed. Whenever I open most videos, I encounter distortions such as the ones in the screenshot below.

What could be the source of this issue and how can I fix it?

Additionally, in Firefox, it sometimes refuses to play HTML5 videos on sites such as YouTube which leads me to believe that there is some sort of issue with the multimedia codecs that I have installed. I haven’t been able to isolate what it is, however.

Video card and driver???

I’m using an Intel HD Graphics 5500 with the Mesa driver.

Mesa drive. that’s new LOL AFAIK there is no such driver though mesa is part of the X stack

Is this a Optimus laptop??

did you do a full vendor change to packman?
if not do it,

zypper lr -d
zypper dup --from packmans_repo_number

also try and remove vdpau packages as some intel chips have issues with them

zypper rm libvdpau

that’s probably a packman issue post your repo list

zypper lr -d

but Firefox did a few changes in their default preferences that caused some youtube bugs, in about:config check and see if gstreamer is enabled if not enable it, you’d still need gstreamer from packman or html5 will not work (mp4 only webm works).
