I am using KDE
Some types of videos are not playing
I followed the guidelines of the forum, but still does not open certain videos
How do I resolve?
Helps to know what type of video…
Essentially most formats will work after a vendor change to packman. It is possible that some form of DRM is in play maybe???
It also helps to explain what you did and not assume that we all know exactly what "the guidelines of the forums’ are.
In other words, did you switch Vendor to Packman?
When I surf the internet, some videos don’t open and I move on, without knowing what type it is.
Fortunately I recorded the last one, its extension is “.mp4”, and when trying to open with VLC, I have this message below:
This Codec is not supported:
Could not decode the “h264” format (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10))
This Codec is not supported:
Could not decode the “mp4a” format (MPEG AAC Audio)
I think this is an answer to @gogalthorpe’s question, not to mine.
Sorry
I did everything the post
“Multimedia-Guide-for-openSUSE-Leap-15-1”
informs for videos to work (I think)
zypper ar -f http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/ packmanzypper ar -f http://opensuse-guide.org/repo/openSUSE_Leap_15.1/ libdvdcss
zypper ref
I don’t know about “Vendor”
How do I do that?
From zypper
zypper dup --from <#, Alias or Name of the Packman repo>
From YaST > Software > Software Management; from the View button choose Repositories, from the list choose Packman, at right above the list of packages is a line like “Switch packages to this repository”, click on the underlines part and Go.
Isn’t that in the guide? Shame!
The line
zypper dup --from <#, Alias or Name of the Packman repo>
Don’t work.
sergio@positivo:~> sudo zypper dup --from <#, Alias or Name of the Packman repo>
bash: erro de sintaxe próximo ao token inesperado `newline'
In YaST > Software > Software Management; from the View button choose Repositories Does not exist
I’m ashamedhttps://forums.opensuse.org/images/icons/icon9.png
zypper dup --from <#, Alias or Name of the Packman repo>
To begin with <…> is something you have to fill in!
I can not know what the sequence number of the Packman repository in your repo list is, nor can I know what Alias is used for it, nor what name is used for it. Please post
zypper lr -d
And for YaST: what then do you see when you click the View button?
==================
And when you precede commands with LANG=C people being here on the English language forums can understand it much better
Like
LANG=C zypper lr -d
, etc. etc., etc.
The instructions for installing MP4/H.264 support are here: <https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Firefox_MP4/H.264_Video_Support>.
- If I correctly recall, these codecs are also required for the VLC Media Player – not only Firefox …
sergio@positivo:~> LANG=C zypper lr -d

Here the View button does not exist in YaST
Well, I assume that you have yourself read that before posting. Didn’t you see that you have still 15.1 repos and even one 15.0 repo there???
That is asking for trouble.
So first repair that.
I did not say the View button from YaST, I did say from YaST > Software > Software Management.
