video twinkling

hello,

new to Suse 11 (and linux), I’ve been trying to play videos with VLC: it plays but it’s twinkling a lot, you can’t watch an entire movie like this… if I try to move another window above VLC, I can still see the video playing and twinkling.
I’ve the same problem exactly with Skype videos.

I’ve been spending quite a lot of time finding out how to install the driver for the ATI radeon x1300 video card for compiz fusion and it works perfectly now. so I hope this is not a driver problem.
the options set for the driver in xorg.conf are the following:
BoardName “Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (RV516 7183)”
Driver “fglrx”
Identifier “Device[0]”
Option “XAANoOffscreenPixmaps” “0x85be9b8”
Option “Capabilities” “0x85ba010”
Option “OpenGLOverlay” “0x85bb9c8”
Option “FSAAScale” “0x84dc318”
Option “FSAAEnable” “0x85bf028”
Option “VideoOverlay” “on”
Option “TexturedVideo” “on”
VendorName “ATI”

thanks for your help

hello,

I’ve tried playing google videos: this works just fine…

so maybe this is only a codec problem (and maybe this post should be under Application then? and should be moved?) but I can’t find the problem. I’ve installed the codec using the 1 click install provided on Opensuse forum. it had a problem with xine-lib VS libxine1, which is the one installed now.

any idea why these divx videos are twinkling?

well, looks like the old Aiglx / video playback problem with compiz running.

for video playback, I’ve found answers in different places and a working one is there:
Desktop Effects interfers with Video playback - openSUSE Forums for xine settings - even if DVD playback quality is quite poor, it doesn’t hurt my eyes anymore.

this unfortunately doesn’t solve Google earth twinkling, and I’ve got to test Skype video again…
