Video Editor Recommendation

Hello,

I would like to find a video editor that is capable of trimming and joining mpeg and avi files. I used to use kino. It was very powerful; but first it would have to import any video you gave it as a dv file. This was a headache; but once this was done, editing was a breeze. It could also export the edited files into almost any format. You could even select audio bit rates; it was very impressive. Unfortunately it has not been developed since 2013; and is now deprecated. I would like to find something to replace it; but whatever I select must be able to trim and join mpeg type files with effects. Performing these procedures with ffmpeg and the command line is tedious.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi
Try out pitivi (zypper in pitivi) http://www.pitivi.org/

Thanks for the recommendation. After installing Pitivi, I pressed the button missing dependencies on the welcome window. It says I need libav. I couldn’t find it in yast, so I loaded
gstreaner-plugins-libav; and I couldn’t find pycanberra anywhere. Also, missing dependencies still tells me that I still need libav, and when I press new, the app crashes.

Any help appreciated.

Hi
Since pycanberra is an incomplete (not built for openSUSE) python module, hence only a soft requirement… do you want sound notifications for when a job is finished?

Have you switched your multimedia to the packman repo yet?

I’ve already switched to packman; and sound notifications aren’t necessary, thanks.

Hi
So it still crashes? I’ve asked about getting the 0.95 version build target for openSUSE Leap 42.1 enabled in GNOME:Apps.

Yeah, it still crashes. I’m going to try a fresh install.

Hi
Clean out the user data as well;

cd ~/.local/share
rm -rf pitivi
cd ~/.config
rm -rf pitivi
cd
