Video Drivers

http://www2.ati.com/suse/11.1/
and
http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.1/
Are in the repos this evening

Note that the repositories are not browsable with a web browser: set them up as yast-sources

I haven’t tried ATI as I don’t have that card.
Nvidia would not resolve a few minutes ago.

However, in the long run they should solve many of the issues you all have been posting.

Remember there’s a driver and a kernel module which needs to match the running kernel (uname -a). You will also need kernel-source and kernel-syms installed IMHO.

Have fun:)

The Nvidia repo has been listed on the YaST repo page for a while now but does not exist. Like you I tried again today but it’s still not there.

Hi
Use ftp in your browser;
ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/

I just downloaded the 177.82 version and compiled, works fine compiz
etc.

I was hoping for a YaST repo for 11.1 because that’s about the level of my ability without doing some research to get the job done:)

I get the error “Unable to create repository from URL http://www2.ati.com/suse/11.1/

adding th Nvidia drivers is really easy except for the bit when everything does not work according to plan. It is however a good excercise as the worst that can happen is that RC1 will have to get “ploughed under” which we are all going to do in a few days save the masochistic few.
NVIDIA - openSUSE has a really good step by step

Here is the nVidia ftp server (isn’t YaST repository!) including the latest (beta) drivers:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/.
Browsable with web browser.
ps.:Just installed 180.16 (latest). Work fine under KDE 4.1.3. No Compiz, or other Desktop effects tested.

And this one for 64-bits:

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/

Does anyone lack the ability to compile newest driver for themselves  I think for now everyone encountered numerous problems with NVidia drivers and at some time everyone had to compile them:D

I had an absolutely flawless experience when I was using :

  • OpenSUSE 10.3
  • the nvidia binary driver ‘current’ with a 8800GTS card
  • the nvidia installation/update repository

I prefer not having to recompile after every kernel update…

Try this http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/isv:dell:community/suse11.0-x86_64/dkms.ymp it’s for openSUSE 11.0 but i will try it and tell if it is any better.

Hi
Have a look here, this is the spec file for building them… I’m about
to try it out…

And what about Intel GMA (for my it’s X3100) drivers? For 3D graphics;)

Are they included in the distro’s DVD?

If not, where can I get them?
