Video Card (Problems)?

Hi. How do I check if I’m using the Nouveu driver or the Nvidia Binary driver?

I thought things were running nicely with the free driver because I had compositing working on my dismal graphics card… But scrolling in firefox is slow/laggy so I tried installing the binary driver with 1click install. But I restarted and still have the same problem. I think I might still be using the nouveu driver?

Actually, scratch that last sentence. I just did lspci -v and got this output:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV37GL [Quadro FX 330/GeForce PCX 5300] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Device 310e
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
        Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
        Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable)
        Memory at f1000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)

        Capabilities: [68] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+

        Capabilities: [100] Virtual Channel
        Capabilities: [128] Power Budgeting <?>
        **Kernel driver in use: nouveau**

So I guess I am still using the nouveu driver…

How do I disable this and use the proprietary one instead? I thought I installed it already but maybe I messed something up?

Cheers.

Its all described here:

SDB:NVIDIA the hard way - openSUSE

If you use the proprietary driver it will disable the nouveu driver for you.
