VGA resolutions????

I use opensuse 13.1 (64 bit) with default KDE installation. Now I tried to get the wireless networking going and used the command zypper install kernel-firmware rfkill. After the next reboot the screen settings are all jumbled up and I cannot reset them any more. With System Settings -> Display Configuration I can see the different options but I cannot set anything. Any ideas how I can rest everything? I have an Asus laptop

/sbin/lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 18)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:1be2]
        Kernel driver in use: i915
linux-tl1r:/var/log # cat Xorg.0.log | grep Chipset
36.731] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Chipsets:
    36.733] (--) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) HD Graphics

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Uli

Strange, I rebooted twice and nothing happened. Then turned the computer off for a while. Now after turning it on again the resolution is as it was before. No idea why…
Cheers

Yes.
FYI if you do an immediate reboot, memory and caches are not always completely cleared.

You need to shutdown, wait at least 5 full seconds for those electrical traces to dissipate, then power up to ensure a clean boot.
