Since certainly half a year I have to add the vga=0x317 parametere at the end of the root parameter in the menu.lst file after each upgrade of the kernel and also recently after upgrading from 11.1 to 11.3. Without this, the splash screen is not shown on my HP Pavilion laptop. I find this strange.
Why do you find it strange?
Because without this parameter the splash screen is not shown! The parameter was correctly added by the installation of 11.1, but since this year, it is omitted with each upgrade.
If you edit the bootloader from the yast2-bootloader module, your vga bootparameter will last for longer.
If you do that from menu.lst it wont last longer.
I have given it a try, but I must wit till the next upgrade to see if it works. Thanks anyway for the hint!
Using the bootloader editor works! There have been kernel updates and I have still the correct VGA parameter and the splash screen.
