VGA Mode Error with v11

Hi, v11 has worked pretty well for me so far but I do have one annoying issue.

The fresh, standard install put a vga mode of 0x31a on my grub settings. This is what I had with 10.3 and it worked fine giving me lots of lines on my big monitor. It no longer works however saying that this is not a supported mode.

I have also noted that I no longer seem to have a /dev/fb defined and doing:

hwinfo --vbe |grep Mode

just gives me

    Mode: 0x01 (Write Back)
    Mode: 0x01 (Write Back)

I’ve tried several other mode settings but none seem to make good use of the native monitor resolutions I have. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have an nVidia 7600GS card with 1 24" widescreen monitor and one 17" monitor.

I have a similar problem when I boot with a usb card reader with the card in
inserted. Mystery!
