VGA Help, really in need!

So I’ve started dual booting windows 7 and openSUSE 11.2 and I must say I love it. I need to learn some things about openSUSE before I make it my primary operating system.

One of which is something that is really bothering me!

I have my toshiba laptop plugged into my 32 inch 1080p Vizio TV and have been doing so for about 2 months. Now the picture is fine and everything on it for openSUSE but my big issue is that I’m stuck at 1024 x 768 and while it fits the screen usually, its EXTREMELY hard to read anything on the screen, as far as things on th OS are concerned, such as a file name or maybe the title of a firefox window i have docked down on my tool bar. Is there anything to help?? I tried moving to the smaller resolution like 800 by 600 but while the text is much bigger, then screen doesn’t fit and looks really goofy!

Someone please help because I am so pleased with Linux and don’t want this to be the thing that holds me back from being a fulltime linux user!!! Thanks

  1. Could you tell us which desktop environment you’te using?

  2. When you have the tv plugged in, are you using the laptop display as well? Clone mode, or extended desktop?

There may be some more questions, depending on answers and what is required?

With KDE 4, you can set the DPI (under Menu > Configure Desktop > Appereance > Fonts)
