Hi. i’m not a very experienced Linux user, so please bare with me
I have just recently duel booted openSUSE 12.2 with Windows 7 and have installed the KDE, Gnome, and <3Cinnamon<3 desktop environments. I have installed the Nvidia driver for my card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 580) using YaST.
Here is the issue i am having. I’m very sorry if i don’t explain this clearly because it’s so strange i am having trouble explaining it to even myself. When the system boots, everything appears fine, no garbled splash screen, no errors, and no glitches whatsoever. however, when i log in to the system and open ANYTHING (even the KDE panel and the Cinnamon panel at the bottom left trigger this) i can no longer click on anything except the window that is open, and unable to close that window.
For example. lets say i open konsole. I can type in the terminal, however i cannot close the terminal, i cannot click on the K menu in the lower left, i actually cannot use the mouse to interact with anything at all. The mouse still moves fine during this process, and i have enabled the ctrl key to show the position of the mouse and when i press ctrl it pings the mouse correctly. The keyboard, however, remains fully functional during this whole process, and if i alt+F4 the window, the mouse works fine again! i can click on everything properly. However, the minute i open a window, i cant click on ANYTHING except what is inside that window. i can’t even click on the title bar or close buttons.
Fixes i have tried: Disabling desktop effects, fallback mode, re-installing the nvidia driver, re-installing the entire operating system, and getting updates.
Other important information
System specs: 16GB ram, NVIDIA GEforce GTX 580 graphics card, 1TB hard drive partitioned for windows 7 and openSUSE, Asus sabertooth p67 motherboard.
Also, i previously used openSUSE 12.1 and did not get this issue. i clean-installed openSUSE 12.2, did not upgrade
If i missed something please let me know. thanks in advance to all who take the time to help!
