once i try to open suse

fsck failed please repair manually and reboot the root file system is currently mounted read-only to remount it read-write do

bash# mount -n -o remount,rw/

what shall i do ???

then it enter to the command line with the root password and waiting me to write commands

i try to type the command up bash# mount -n -o remount,rw/ gives me error !!!

any help and why this occur

by the way i think the line which failed was activating swap devices in etc/fstab

What about writing normally (?)

sorry i don’t understand can you explain more ?

He was talking about the terrible formating of the original post.

fsck failed indicates that the file system is messed up. This could be caused by a hardware failure. In any case you need to run fsck from an externally booted source (ie Linux CD) to fix the formating. A good tool is a Parted Magic disk. Note if the problem is hardware this won’t be fixable.

i don’t think the problem is from hardware because the hardware is running well
in addition im running on microsoft windows 7 right now from the same pc

more ideas please !!!

Do so. Repair manually as it is telling you to do.

Well, edit the file and check that the line for swap is correct.

i didn’t shout why u said so

if i knew how to edit the file or even how to do it i won’t ask from beginning please more details what to type exactly !

Since OpenSuse won’t boot you need to boot from a Linux based CD. You can then mount the root partition and edit the table.

You will still need to run the fsck program to correct any file system corruption. Again you need to do this from a bootable CD such as Parted Magic

This could still be a hardware problem. Just because one area of the disk is ok (ie Windows partition) does not mean all is ok You can also get a utility from the Disk Drive maker that can do a low level scan and check the surface of the disk.

Writing all in upppercase is shouting in internet culture.

You had the “vi” editor at that screen you got to. Probably also joe, emacs, mcedit… But they will
all fail because the partition is R/O. Try then use a live CD like knopix.

I can’t say what to edit because I’m not there to see the contents of your fstab. Try posting it
here. Or try commenting out the line for swap, if you believe that is the problem.
