Very strange audio problem

One user, namely me, does not hear audio in YouTube and similar kind of sites.

All other audios are audible, like now I am listenin via VLC.
Sound is on, when using Spotify (via WINE). Also login/logout sounds, and other system sounds can be heard…

Only those sounds that come via firefox are not heard with my account…
…other users hear all audio including YouTube etc.

i dont remember when this has started, but this has not always been the case. Audio has worked in the past…

Assuming you are using openSUSE-11.2, problems with flash on YouTube are typically because

  • PCM volume was dynamically set to zero volume when flash started in firefox, and one needs to move the volume back up, or
  • one has multiple sound devices recognized in YaST > Hardware > Sound and flash is attempting to play the audio with an inappropriate sound device. For example, in KDE one needs to go the Kickoff Application Launcher > Configure Desktop > Multimedia and ensure the output device preference is consistent with what is correctly functioning in YaST,
*] in Firefox go to Edit > Preferences > Applications > Shockwave Flash File and change to “Use Flash Player (default)”.

That seems like it worked…
…atleast now sounds work.
