Very slow internet speed in suse 11.0

i have installed suse 11.0 in my system. my adsl speed is really slow in suse and sometimes it stops! it is really faster in windows and ubuntu! what’s the problem? is that with kinternet or kde4.0?
thanks 4 any suggesstion!

I think the problem in kde4

Problems in yaet and programmes and graphical.

And also slow in opening files.

Go back to kde3.5 or gnome.

try to deactivate ipv6
i have same problem

thanks, disabling ipv6 made page browsing better, but there is a long distance between my windows and suse. in windows my speed is about 300Kb/s(with IDM) but in suse it’s less than 10!
what else can i do?
(in kde 3 it is better?)

How to disabling ipv6 on suse? -newbie-

just goto yast -> network devices -> dsl ->

choose your dsl connection and click on “edit”(or doubleclick connection), in new window click “network configuration”, there you will see ipv6 check box!

remember that you have to reboot your system to make this chage affect!

Of course, if everyone just disables IPv6 because their ISP does or will
not support it, this will never get off the ground.
Ask your ISP when they are going to (at least) start testing with IPv6
over/in IPv4 tunnels, and tell them they are the cause that IPv6
lookups are not working (it’s not a problem in IPv6 or Linux).

Hi, I have been going through the same for quite some time and then solved it for my laptop. My problems are as follows,

  • I am running opensuse 12.1 new installation
  • I configured a dsl device using Yast. But this device is not listed in the Yast dsl device list!
  • I configured my dsl provider with username and password in Yast too.

But, When I connect to the dsl internet, the following is frustrating,

a websites such as mail.yahoo.com, Sign In etc dont load in any browser. I tried a lot of stuff and nothing worked. Other sites such as bbc.co.uk and cnn etc load as usual. so i thought this was an ssl problem or something. this kind of trouble shooting went on for 2 weeks

Solution to all this that worked for me?

I saw that, I was using this Network manager software to manage the networks/dsl. I disabled that and reverted to ifup and if down. when I configure the dsl, I can connect to the internet and everything worked fine. Not a problem. But then I dont know how to dial into the dsl connection i just created after sometime!! Again I went to the terminal logged as su and then typed ifup dsl0 and presto i am up and running!

Hope this is helpful for you. Do you know how I can dial into my dsl connection other than ‘su terminal mode’ ? Also, why is my dsl ppoe device not listed in yast although i can use it?

Best Regards,
Hari
