I’ve used OpenSuse off and on in the past, and then went to Mandriva, Ubuntu, and LinuxMint over the years, then decided to take another look at OpenSuse and installed 11.3 64-bit version and boy am I impressed! My HP DeskJet f2210 was detected and automatically set up and configured without my having to do anything. My webcam works out of the box, too! In fact, everything just works in 11.3! I feel like I’ve come home! What a distro!

That is very good news to hear there RevJack. You might list the exact specs of your PC, like CPU, chipset, video chipset, memory for others here to see just what openSUSE is working with beside the basic info you gave. I am sure our other users would find this very useful to know. And thanks for sharing your success with us.
Thank You,
Yes openSUSE is truely an excellent distro. Nothing comes close to it IMHO. My printer (Very OLD HP Deskjet 880C) and webcam (Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX) work out of the box with openSUSE so I am very impressed. KDE is excellent in openSUSE. The openSUSE devs have done an excellent job making sure everything works. I am looking forward to 11.4 coming out in March next year
Anyway, enjoy using openSUSE and welcome back
The computer is a Dell Inspiron Desktop with 620GB Hard Drive, 6GB of RAM, and an AMD AthlonII Tri-core processor. OpenSuse 11.3 also detected my 1TB external hard drive and I can read and write to it without any issues.
Oh, and by the way, installation of 11.3 was a breeze!
I’m glad that everything is working for you in openSUSE
Yes I have always found the install of openSUSE very easy

Sounds like a real fast computer there. What video chipset does it use RevJack?
Thank You,
I believe it is an ATI Radeon video chipset, and yes, it is pretty fast and quiet, too!
Welcome back !
Here are some stickies that we nominally create for new users, and even though you’ve been around the block and have experience, there may be some tidbits there you find of interest:
Glad to hear… I have had similar experiences since switching to 11.3… Geeko FTW

I had the same reaction when I tried for the first time OpenSUSE 11.1 kde live. It was the only GNU/Linux distribution (for me at that time) that recognized and configuring automatically my sound card E-mu 1212m. After that I felt in love of this distribution
Yes, oS 10.0 was the only one, years ago, my mom’s computer modem worked OOTB.
I’ve flirted with a few other distros but always come back to oS.
Welcome back. Opensuse is the best operating system which I have worked and still work with that.
It’s the only Linux distro to detect my monitor as a 17 inch Acer monitor and automatically set the resolution accordingly. All the other Linux distros can’t identify it and call it an unknown monitor. Am I impressed? You betcha!
You are right about that. It is the only distro which recognize all peripheral devices so I have not compatibility problems.
