Very high CPU load under KDE and XFCE

Hi everyboday,
hope someone can help!

My machine has 2 CPUs, one of them spends 100% the its time with Xorg.
As a result everything works VERY slow.
This never happened before, just a few days ago for the first time.

When I log in as root, everything runs smooth and no high CPU load.

Any ideas?

(sorry for the subject line, I meant “Very”

OpenSuse version?
Video card?
Video Driver?
Have you tried a new user account and see if this conditions applies to it?
What did you install a couple of days ago? Update?

Sorry.

OS Version: 11.2

Intel graphics chip, can’t say which, I am not at this machine now, but it ran a 3D desktop without problems.

I did not try a new user, as the machine is almost unusable. Will try again tomorrow.

I did not install anything, except the updates the repositories offered.

how often did you log into either KDE or XFCE as root before this started?

did it ever happen before you logged into the GUI as root for the
first time?

extremely rarely

No

I also created a new (regular) user, same problem.

Since I need the machine working, I’ll reinstall 11.2 again today.
(Why not 11.3? Because my home PC shows all kinds of weird things since upgrade to 11.3, like those discussed in the forum: Wireless, audio etc. Too bad)
