Version lag of some apps, e.g. DeaDBeeF and mpd

Maybe this is more of a general OBS question.

I would like to know

  • why some apps have a certain version lag on TW, i.e. are several weeks to months behind the programmers‘ current version,
  • and how I can find out (probably somewhere on the openSUSE Build Service) what the current status is, who is the maintainer, and maybe how to contact her/him.

In particular, I notice that DeaDBeeF is one version behind since long, and mpd was (yes, I see it’s current now) several versions behind.

Thanks a lot in advance for providing information, in particular for giving me a clear picture of how and where to find OBS information relevant to package status etc. Remark: I am subscribed to the openSUSE Factory mailing list, which is nice to get announcements and good info on the stream of TW updates.

Hi
So you need to find the development repository first, so for example deadbeef;

osc dp openSUSE:Factory deadbeef

multimedia:apps

Head off to the build service;

or

As can be see it’s failing to build and needs fixing. You can also see that there are three derived packages, you need to check those as a user is probably in the process of fixing…

If you look up the top you will see a link to ‘users’ here you can see the maintainers etc. If you are logged into OBS then you can also see the email etc.

Going through the process can vary from package to package… it goes through some automation/checks after submission to factory, I did an update to duply four days ago, I just got an email it’s been revoked for what looks like a transient issue, so need to wait a bit longer for it to get through to Tumbleweed… There is nothing stopping you branching, fixing and submitting an update for a package you care for either :wink:

Hi, thanks a lot. That helps to find one‘s way into the OBS and development repos.
