The title says it all. Veromix, which appears to be a cool mixer widget for pulseaudio, fails to run on a fresh install of openSuSE 12.1. Installation leads to a red box with an X in the system tray. Hovering the mouse over it says “Unable to load the widget. Script initialization failed.” I don’t know how to troubleshoot this. Any ideas?
I am sorry, that I have no 12.1 installation to check this, but on my 11.4 installation there is no such thing as a Veromix package in the standard repos or Packman.
When it is in 12.1, you do not have to answer this. But when this is also the case in 12.1 you must of course explain from where and how you installed this software, nobody here being clairvoyant.
Sorry not to be more specific…
I installed it from Panel–>Panel Options–>Add Widgets–>Get New Widgets–>Download New Plasma Widgets. I then just did a search for “Veromix” and the clicked “Install”.
Maybe just some advice about how to troubleshoot a widget? I know that a lot can be learned by running an application from the command line but I don’t know how to do this with a widget.
The sole thing I can think of right now, is to check whether qt-script is installed.
You talk about using a panel. That makes me thinking that this is in some desktop environment. I do not see any mentioning of you using one, let alone which one.
I do not want to be to pedantic, but I guess that when you stop thinking that everybody has the same things as you have, does the same things as you have, thinks the same things as you think, it will probably help those who are here spending their time in trying to help you.

An alternative to do the installation by searching the web with the
inbuilt feature of plasma to search for widgets is to use a prebuilt rpm
for this widget and hope that it resolves the dependencies better.

(KDE:Extra should be the right one)

Sorry, but I thought that a “widget” implied that I was using a desktop environment.
So, hopefully to eliminate any more confusion, I am using openSuSE 12.1, 32-bit, 4gigs of ram, Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz, KDE desktop.
I don’t have an option for installing qt-script. Is it found in a repo other than the default ones?
The veromix plasmoid is in KDE/Extra. You need to also install python-devel, relog or reboot and it will work.
i’m also on openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64) KDE:4.7.2 (4.7.2) “release 5” ( Kernel 3.1.10-1.16-desktop ) and i HAVE installed python-devel and it’s not working anyway…
before i even had trouble to install the latest version, and apper always crashed… i deinstalled and reinstalled it and now i have at least the latest version ( ||plasmoid-veromix = 0.18.3-5.1 from KDE:extra , Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_12.1 ) installed.|

but with no luck…
can someone help???
Hi!
I remember having the same problem some time ago. I think it had something to do with some folders needed by veromix. Do you have these two folders: /usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/plasmoids/veromix-plasmoid/ and ~/.kde4/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids/ ? I think I solved my problems by creating those two necessary folders. Also, I assume you have the necessary packages installed like python-devel. If creating those folders doesn’t work, then uninstall Veromix and DELETE those folders, and then try to reinstall Veromix. One of those things worked for me.
Thanks for this super fast reply!
I had those two folder where the latter of it was empty… and i have
# rpm -q python-devel
python-devel-2.7.2-7.17.1.x86_64
so i tried the uninstall, deleting and reinstalling thing: same result, the same folders were created again, but still not working.
when i mousover the white cross on red square (icon?) it says " script initialization failed".
One thing i recognized was the output of:
plasmapkg -l
before uninstall and after reinstall there were like two identical entries in the output, like this:
snip
.
twitter
unitconverter
upcomingEvents
veromix-plasmoid
veromix-plasmoid
videoclip
weather
weatherstation
.
snip
which i think is pretty strange…
thanks anyway,
any other hints??

sounds like several have the same problem, so it probable IS a problem…
maybe nose around in the kde.org forums, begin:
http://forum.kde.org/search.php?sid=18c4b0f0a0dbaf09a0a90056ce63c89f
and log a bug on bugzilla…
but be sure and check if it is already logged, begin
