on startup/shutdown i get following message "vbox guest (something) failed
what does that mean ?

Your meaning in the boot messages during boot and shutdown?
(Virtual Box) is for running Virtual Machines. You probably have some VBox software installed by default and it’s not configured. You can always un-install any Virtual Box stuff if you don’t plan to use it. The messages will go away then
guess that’s the case , I installed it from a live cd
So i guess its not a problem then.
