Various window operations are slow

I’m running Suse 11.1 on an AMD64. The other day I was screwing around with the “Personal Settings” and when I finished doing it I found that there was a tremendous lag on many of the things I want to do with windows. Now when I want to maximize, restore or resize there’s this pregnant pause leaving me wondering if I actually hit the right button or not. Starting new apps also causes a lot of disk activity and the bouncing icon on the lower right of my mouse pointer is slow. I tried going back over what I’d done, and pushing Default, but I was never able to fix this behavior. What can I try?
Man I hate KDE4!!!

Configure Desktop - Desktop - Desktop Effects
Uncheck - enable desktop effects

'Looks like that was it. Thanks
