hi, i’m thinking to install opensuse 11.2 on my acer5920g and i have a couple of questions:
for some reason my laptop’s dvd drive seems unable to read the opensuse dvd. i’ve got an external usb dvd drive who reads the dvd just fine, but the system doesn’t “read” the drive at computer boot, so it boots normally without even considering the opensuse dvd. How can i fix this problem?
my laptop is actually a dual boot with an older opensuse version and vista. I wish to overwrite my older opensuse partition with 11.2 (not upgrading, i want to do a clean install, i.e. format). The older opensuse’s GRUB had no problems and, at system startup, shows me the various os. But i read many users have GRUB issues with 11.2: how can i set it to view all of the os? should i put the bootloader on MBR?
For the boot problem check the boot sequence in your BIOS
For the grub question IMO just take the default grub options ie install to MBR. I think most problems you are seeing on the forms are caused by people changing the defaults and not fully understanding the processes involved. Unless you have some really odd setup (does not sound like it) leave grub alone.
