Get on over to Valve and signup!
You’ll notice a heavy slant towards Ubuntu in
the application!! We need SuSE users to get the
word out that we like games too!
Valve had to start some were, and picked ubuntu.
One of the reason was, it has an lts version.
I did not apply, because I do not have much experience with gaming on linux, and no experience with ubuntu.

You don’t have to run Ubuntu for the beta, but it seems to be
a ‘preferred’ platform. It also mentions Fedora/RedHat/Debian as I recall.
SuSE isn’t mentioned at all, so I selected ‘other’. We’ll see if I make
the cut.
I hope you make it.Would be cool to have at least one suse beta tester.
Yes GofBorg. Please post here again if you get the oportunity to be a beta tester. I would very much like to know how you experience Steam on Linux and openSUSE in particular! Good luck!
Maybe choosing an LTS was a good idea for Valve, but still Unity+Compiz suck for a smooth gaming experience…hope they’ll soon arrive on openSUSE to!
Here you can see which distros steam users have.

I am happy there are opensuse users too. I always thought I was the only one.

Just thought I would share this that I found.
“Valve’s Frank Crockett explained that “an overwhelming majority of beta
applicants have reported they’re running the Ubuntu distro of Linux,” but
Valve plans on supporting additional “popular distros,” prioritized by user
feedback.”

things are looking good.
I am not in, so can’t confirm, but i believe you can get serious sam 3 for 5 dollar (5 euro ?)
Serious Sam, is not being beta tested anymore.
Croteam will depending of the succes of SS3 on linux, finish porting the first and second encounter too.
Great news Serious Sam is one of my favourite games ever. Thanks for the info.
Good news, it’s no longer a closed Beta.
I have it installed and it downloaded team fortress 2
The only game in my library which is already ported.
I played a bit, but without sound its no fun.
More good news for you geekos, Steam is available in the 3rd party openSUSE Games repo for openSUSE 12.1, 12.2 and Tumbleweed.
