Vaio webcam

Hi all, during the weekend I decided to give Linux a go. I am a complete newbie, so please bear with me if the questions are daft. The installation went ok on my Vaio VGN-FZ18E,dual booting with Vista. But I noticed that the webcam was not recognised. I then searched this forum and found out I had to install the r5u87x-loader, which I did. Now when I open Kopete’s configuration panel, the webcam is actually shown in the list (UVC camera 05ca-1837) but all I see is a green screen, where the image from the cam is supposed to be. Am I missing something obvious? Is there any way to get this working?

I also noticed, using the sound recorder, that the microphone works but it is very very noisy.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
