In OpenSuse 11.2 is there anyway I can get a desktop icon/launcher to do a /sbin/reboot, which would bypass the login screen coming up before powering off and on again without having to give the user the root password?
Thanks
Bob

is it not possible to just right click on the desktop, choose shutdown
(or logout, i don’t remember what it says in gnome) then choose reboot…
there should be no login screen popup!
and, /sbin/reboot won’t turn the power off and then reconnect power
and boot…and neither will the clicking i describe above…
and, there should be NO root password involved in the reboot!!
are you running Gnome as root?

Using Yast->system->/etc/sysconfig editor
open Desktop->display manager->displaymanager_shutdown and set it to all.
this requires a reboot to take effect.
