I tried to install KDE4-LiveCD-Build0336 and accidentally clicked Next at the user name screen. The installer allowed me to proceed to the next stages without entering either a user name or a password.
I went back but, is this normal behaviour and if so, shouldn’t there be something to stop people trying to proceed without entering a user? Or is there a check later on which I didn’t get to?
Did you add a root account?
i think by doing that you build a user whose ID and password fields
are blank…AND, since the default is to have root use the prime
user’s pass, the root pass is also blank…
so, anywhere (say a terminal) that asks for the user ID, just hit
enter…and for that user (or root) pass hit enter again…
REAL secure…not.
agree that it should not allow blank fields AND should not default to
root and user sharing a pass…(but, the developers seem to know more
than us underlings)

Thanks. When I accidentally clicked Next the buttons to use the same password for root were ticked by default. So it skipped right to the confirm installation screen.
When I clicked Back it went first to the root password screen and then to the user screen.
I think it is undesirable behaviour, if not a bug. I didn’t want to post it as a bug if someone knew there was a trap later in the installation to put it right.

as far as i know it is by design, but VERY poor design…(that is, no
‘trap’ to prevent blank user, blank user password and blank root
password…)
