user gnome or kde desktop broken with black screen

Hello,

I was using the NVidia propietary drivers and tried to revert back to the open source driver. It did not work, so I reinstalled the NVidia driver again.

When I log into my account in Gnome or KDE, the desktop is black. However, when I log into my root account, everything works fine with gnome.

I tried creating a temporary account and with this new user account, I also get a black screen.

What would be the best course of action?

How exactly did you install the driver?

Please post /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the output of glxinfo (package Mesa-demo-x) run as user.
