Now, don’t laugh at me if this is ridiculously simple. But How on earth can I install proprietary AMD drivers?

I tried to follow the directions here: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AMD_fglrx

I’ve tried both the one click install and to add the repository to yast manually and it goes fine until it ask for user authentication. Which I then type in my user name and password. But this is where a problem occurs. Every time I enter it, it just ask for it again. No messages or anything. It just keeps asking for it repeatedly.

I’ve also tried going into the terminal and adding the repositories using the commands for Zypper here: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Add_package_repositories

But all I get is an error stating
“System management is locked by the application with pid 5077 (/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base).
Close this application before trying again.”

So I’m totally lost.

I will also point out that I had just fixed an issue with my internet connection that I suspect is caused by my router, but was fixed by simply disabling IPv6. Although I suspect it may be unrelated(could be wrong though).

Oh, and this is a fresh install.

well you should enter root’s password not your password and you don’t need your user name.
I tried clicking on the AMD repo url’s but they asked for a password?
I think the one click fails because you are entering the wrong password.
why not try it directly from yast
start yast (enter root password)
qoto yast -> repository management, click add repo, select community repo, select AMD/ATI, click OK
goto yast -> software management search and install the AMD driver
ps. I use nvidia and install it’s driver more or less the same way, but it seams the ATI repo’s need a logon account not sure why.

this happens because you are trying to install from zypper while the one click installer is still active and has a lock on the rpm database, at one time only one app can install/remove software close the one click installer (yast)

I closed the installer and it did add it to the repository successfully using the command. Although now whenever I start Software management this causes it to just repeatedly ask for user authentication repeatedly until I click cancel and then skip.

I also tried adding the community repository and there doesn’t appear to be an ATI/AMD one from what I can see.

It’s probably worth throwing in that this is the error it displays whenever I choose to skip the user authentication

I ended up building the RPM myself and all is well now. Although it would probably be nice to find out what went wrong with the other installation methods.
