usb write problem, 12.3

I am working on creating a live usb with 12.3. I downloaded the KDE 86_64 version, verified the checksum, and used Universal USB Installer 1.9.4.4 from pendrivelinux.com. (I first tried ImageWriter, but it would not recognize my stick…) Everything up to this point looks successful, but when I try and boot, I get “Boot failure : No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found“ . After reading a little, I found a few articles that refer to the syslinux folders that should be present. My files are two img’s, named 0 and 1 and three text files… What step am I missing here?

I have some exp with Ubuntu, Gentoo and Mint, but I am by no means an expert ;). I am working from an XP machine, and using a 16gb thumb drive.

If the image is correctly written, there quite a number of files and folders. It’s actually divided in two parts IIRC.

Can you use a DVD?

I don’t believe Universal USB Installer works for 12.3/ What version of Windows wee you trying to run ImageWriter? There have been some reports that it might not work in Win 8. Try running it as administrator.

Or try this one:
Tools for OSForensics - ImageUSB - Write an image to multiple USB Flash Drives

This one successfully writes an openSUSE image to an USB stick and should work even on Windows 8.

No, I can’t use dvd; no drive…

I’m running on XP. I tried ejecting, reformatting the stick, and running as admin, but image writer refuses to see it- everything else (other programs, windows) see it normally. Weird.

Ok, I’ll try that link and report back!

Success!

Thank you for the link, that worked flawlessly
