USB Wireless Mouse not working properly after security updates OpenSuSE 11.3

Hi everyone!

I finally made the switch from Windoze to OpenSuSE 11.3, you might say “just now?”,
the thing is that in the previous version of OpenSuSE hibernation didn’t work with
my laptop, but now it does and i love it!

to the point… the thing is that i installed OpenSuSE 11.3 on my laptop about 3 weeks ago, first i had problem with the install because my laptop’s dvd drive doesn’t work at all so i managed to install OpenSuSE from a USB Hard Drive, anyway, after install completed I installed some of the basic stuff I use for school and home (like gcc, math programs, amarok mp3 player, themes backgrounds, etc…) and everything was running smoothly until the time came for some “security updates” I guess these are the first updates you get after a clean install, so I accepted to install the updates, not problems while installing, the problem came after the reboot, you see I have a “Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 - 5-btn Mouse - Wireless - 2.4 GHz” and just after the reboot the mouse started acting weird, how weird? Well, I’ve seen some wireless mice that when you are not using them they automatically turn off so for instance if you want to use you mouse they won’t react at first, i mean you have to move them a little bit or click on them to turn them on again, i guess that’s due to inactivity in order to save battery, well that’s not the case with my mouse because whenever i use it in a Windoze operating system that doesn’t happen to my mouse and neither happened before te security updates, I’m not sure if I’m explaining it good, but the problem after the security updates is that when I want to use the mouse (wireless mouse) it won’t just move, you have to wait like 3 or 4 seconds before you can use it, clicking and moving it won’t work it just freezes, however I am able to use the touchpad mouse and workd great, the other thing is that it does not only happens after mouse inactivity in fact when I am using the mouse in freezes on me, no clicking and moving works, all i have to do is wait but it’s very frustrating because that happens about ever 2 to 3 minutes (while i’m using the mouse), but as weird as this might seem I did not notice this until I installed the compat-wireless drivers for a TL-WN422G USB wireless adapter, so I said may be that caused problems but I didn’ want to reinstall my OS since I just got it the way i want it, I went ahead and made a clean install in a PC I have, I used the same DVD and I connected my wireless mouse, everything worked as it supposed to, i used the system for a long time and guess what? no mouse problem, so I then installed the sercurity updates and aha! mouse started acting weird, that way I knew that the problem was not caused by the compat-wireless, but by security updates.

Things I’ve tried:
1 - Changing Battery
2 - Switching USB port
3 - OS Failsafe
4 - Used it in other computer before and after security updates.
5 - Mouse works great in other Wind0z operating systems.

Does anyone want to help me? I’m kind of noob at commands but I’ll post any output command you suggest. Thanks for reading!

There is a problem with the latest kernel update that can cause such a problem. Read the following thread for a suggested fix.

Keyboard & mouse freezes

Thank You,

Thank you so much!! I looked at that thread before I posted mine but the thing is that i never got to page 11, should be in page 1 lol
Fixed the problem, it actually took less time to fix it than writing this post.

I really appreciate it! Long Live OpenSuSE!!!

There is a new kernel release now, so you should get that too.

Hello.
In the end the mouse is still slightly sticky. I am back to the old wired
mouse. The wireless keyboard seems ok.
