USB Wifi not detected after restart

I have added an Asus USB Wifi connector, model USB N-53 to my laptop. it is dual band and allows me to connect to 5G wifi. It worked out of the box like a charm. No issues detecting and connecting to the network.

The issue is that the device is not detected after a reboot. I have to unplug and plug back in for the system to detect it.

How do I make it permanent ?

Running openSuse 13.2 KDE, 64 bit, with Network manager to manage my wifi connections.

thank you.

So, just to clarify further, it’s not just a case of the wifi connection not being made (after boot), it’s that the device is not detected at all (unitl re-plugged), correct? From a cold boot (with the device plugged in), note what is reported by

/usr/sbin/hwinfo --wlan
/sbin/ifconfig

Then re-plug and run the commands again. Compare any differences.

You might need to trawl through the boot log to see if there are any relevant messages related to that wireless device.

Another thought that I had - assuming rfkill is installed, check the status of

rfkill list

when wireless device is booted from cold vs when unplugged and plugged.

had a similar experience on a pc with a logitech usb-wireless adapter

after a couple a cold restarts the auto detection resolved itself

Well… I feel dumb. That is exactly what happened. The problem resolved by itself after a couple of reboots. Thanks for everyone who helped.

Well, sometimes these things take a bit of experimentation. Although it’s difficult to know why a couple of reboots would make any difference.
