…it says there " usb 4-3: not running at top speed; connect to a high speed hub " and " usb 4-3: invalid descriptor for config index 0: type = 0x2, length = 2 " what does it mean ? Any idea how to solve the problem ? Thanks

Laptop model? Are you connecting via a USB 3.0 port or USB 2.0 port?

Are you able to test the device of interest with another PC?

Hi,

The Laptop is USB 2.0 connection , The recording interface is USB 2.0

Info center data when the the usb connection is working

Still have to test it on a windows machine.

I am at a loss , can’t pinpoint a pattern … The usb cable does have a gost arrester (magnet on the cable) .

can’t test it on my desk top since I am on a different location.

The laptop is approx 8 year old. I upgraded the RAM and installed the SSD drive.

Anyway if you have any further ideas please let me know … thanks

Worn USB sockets/plugs perhaps?

Well , I tested the audio interface on a windows10 labtop, the recording interface was detected immediately !!!

Don’t think there are worn connectors but must admit I thought along those ways too.

So what is left

the hardware of the Toshiba labtop and Linux … gut-feel it has something to do with Linux ! something is missing …

There is a program in the repostitory called " USBviewer ". This program requires

USB compiled into the kernel
USB core modules loaded
and
usbdevfs filesystem mounted

…and then you apparently can interogate usb connection/devices.

…so how do I go about it ? …what do I have to install ?

… and , if I install the above , what implications does it have on my system ?

Thanks and best regards

I don’t think it’s linux. Behringer are known for their devices to work fine with linux.

“UMC 1808” or UMC1820?
Try it with another machine.

The OP already did that (refer earlier in the thread).

Well … I tried it again with the windows machine … and IT DID NOT WORK UNDER WINDOWS EITHER !!! intermitaned fault as it is .

The thing what windows did however, it gave me a msg that the unit is faulty.

Well that makes it a WARRANTY CLAIM !!!

I wish that Linux would have given me a similar msg rather then nothing or only hidden in the systems log with some obscure error msg.

The other thing is a diagnostic tool for usb devices would be very helpful ,.

So coming back to the usbviewer mentioned above , what would I have to do to make it happen ?

Thanks for your help and best regards

I’m not surprised to read this.

I wish that Linux would have given me a similar msg rather then nothing or only hidden in the systems log with some obscure error msg.

Such a message could be misleading anyway, as the symptoms may be caused by other intermediate issues.

The other thing is a diagnostic tool for usb devices would be very helpful ,.

So coming back to the usbviewer mentioned above , what would I have to do to make it happen ?

Well, it’s easy enough to install, but I don’t really see the point.
