My phone doesn’t charge when plugged in the USB of my laptop when using the charge only mode from the phone.
I accidentally found out that using the file transfer mode on my phone, charges the phone.
This is unintuitive because I don’t want to mount the phone every time I would like to charge.
Is this a bug, and how to fix it?

With “mode” I’m referring to the “what do you want to use this device for” notification on android.

Samsung S21, running Android 14, One UI 6.
No problems with “USB for charging only”, using setting on phone. Running up-to-date TW, Dell laptop.
(Sidenote: I never use the laptop to charge the phones, cause it’s not as efficient and fast as the dedicated charger, but I did test it just now).
You might consider also posting at your phone maker’s forum - might be something “phone related”.
Thanks for the feedback
I’ll ask for support on the phone side.
Check BIOS settings for USB or energy.
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll check.
Unfortunately no such settings. It seem HP doesn’t add nice bios settings to cheap laptops.
Thanks for the suggestion!
iPhone will not enable USB port (and charge using this port) until it is unlocked. May be your phone has similar security settings.
Thanks so much! Your suggestion led me to disable USB debugging. That solved the problem. I never thought that this was the culprit.
You have all been so kind and helped me isolate the issue ^^
