[] USB not set to correct speed

This is a part of the output of the lsusb -d <vendor:product> command:

...
SuperSpeed USB Device Capability:
    bLength 10
    bDescriptorType 16
    bDevCapabilityType 3
    bmAttributes 0x00
    wSpeedsSupported 0x000e
Device can operate at Full Speed (12Mbps)
Device can operate at High Speed (480Mbps)
**Device can operate at SuperSpeed (5Gbps)**
    bFunctionalitySupport 1
Lowest fully-functional device speed is Full Speed (12Mbps)
...

I’m fed up with transfert rates less than 20 MiB/s… (5Gbps → must have something around 600 Mib/s)… question is (as the seagate must be superspeed 3.0 compatible as seen in the specs) HOW TO set USB to superspeed mode ?

Hi
Does the system have USB 3.0 ports?

Here I see;

lsusb -t

/: Bus 04.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci_hcd/4p, 5000M
    |__ Port 2: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 5000M
    |__ Port 3: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 5000M

You are right, those chipsets doesn’t deal with usb 3.0, I was thinking blue connectors were 3.0 but that means nothing if the motherboard doesn’t handle it.

In a short term I will replace the motherboard.

The chipsets I have are

  • Northbridge: AMD 760G
  • Southbridge: AMD SB710

…the southbridge is only 2.0, that’s all.

I got a PCIe USB 3.0 card for my PC, easier and cheaper than replacing the motherboard. Prices range $20 - $30 for many of them.
